Department of Education Sets New Active Transportation Regulations

State Board of Education Approves New Nutrition and Activity Regulations for Schools
The Pennsylvania State Board of Education voted overwhelmingly to advance the most comprehensive school nutrition and physical activity standards in the country. These standards will significantly improve the nutrition environments in our schools and ensure that all children get at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every school day. 1. These standards are hardly a done deal (hence, the giant "DRAFT" written across them). PA Walks and Bikes is in communication with the Department of Education about this issue. There will be a public comment period on the proposed regulations coming very soon, maybe in the next month. We will be pushing hard to ensure that many positive comments are submitted. Ultimately, it will take an act of the legislature to finalize the standards.
